#68: How to Begin Trying Life On
Aug 24, 2026Back to basics.
I spend a lot of time talking about mindset, subconscious programming, lifestyle design, money, time, relationships, accessing the world and some of the deeper metaphysical concepts behind how we create our lives.
But if you found Try Life On today and said, "...Maurice, I understand the idea. I want more freedom. I want to build a lifestyle I don't need a vacation from. How do I actually get started?" This newsletter is for you.
I created the Try Life On Framework because people tend to gravitate toward things that feel real and practical. Give someone something they can see, write down, work through and take action on, and it becomes much easier to begin. And it works. Thousands of people have now used some version of this framework to start building lifestyles they don't need a vacation from.
But I also want you to understand that the framework is a means.
On the surface you're writing a Perfect Day, creating goals related to the Five Freedoms, identifying the blockers keeping you from those goals and taking action to remove them. Underneath that very practical process you're beginning to activate something much larger. You're giving your conscious mind a vision and direction, learning to hear the superconscious voice that often presents itself through instinct and intuition and programming the subconscious, that steam engine running so much of your life through beliefs, habits and routines, to begin working in the direction you've consciously chosen.
You don't have to understand all of that to use the framework. That's part of why I created it. You can learn more about the subconscious, superconscious and the metaphysics behind creation as you go. For now, the framework gives you a practical means to get all of those parts of you moving toward a life you've intentionally chosen rather than one you've simply inherited.
The basic 3-step roadmap.
1. Understand the Concept of Try Life On
Start by understanding what I'm actually talking about when I say Try Life On. The intent here is simply to build awareness that much of what we consider "normal" life is inherited status quo programming. How we're supposed to work, where we're supposed to live, how we're supposed to use our time, what we're supposed to do with our money and even what a successful life is supposed to look like.
Trying Life On starts with recognizing that status quo is a default language you don't have to follow. The goal is to become more intentional about how you use your time on this planet, develop habits that move you toward the Five Freedoms, leverage your 9-5 more than it leverages you and ultimately create a lifestyle you don't need a vacation from.

2. Execute the Try Life On Framework
Once you understand the concept, start doing the work. Write your Perfect Day in extreme emotional detail. Break that vision down into goals related to the Five Freedoms: Time, Financial, Geographic, Purpose and Relationships. Then determine the blockers keeping you from reaching those goals and start removing them. Those blockers might be actions you aren't taking, relationships, information you're consuming, financial circumstances, your job, habits, beliefs or mindsets.
That's the framework: Perfect Day → Five Freedoms Goals → Blockers → Actions. Execute, iterate, reevaluate and execute again. I've said for years that you'll probably do this 100 times because your life will continue changing as you do. You don't need to know exactly how you're going to create the entire life when you start. You need enough clarity to identify what's between you and what you want and then begin working on what's in front of you.

Newsletter 18 deep dives the framework. Podcasts 84 and 23 allow you to listen to actual coaching students working through their Perfect Day and lifestyle blueprints, including freedom goals, blockers and actions. The other resources give you examples and perspectives on what happens when people stop simply consuming the ideas and begin applying them to their lives.
3. Leverage Tactical Information
This is what most of the rest of my content is for. You're unique, which means I can't create one roadmap that tells every person exactly how to remove every blocker. Your blocker might be financial freedom. Someone else's might be their 9-5. Another person's might be time, fear, relationships, geographic access, mindset or decades of subconscious programming telling them what is and isn't possible.
That's why there are newsletters and podcast episodes on all of those subjects. They're tactical information designed to help you build awareness, shift mindset or solve specific problems that appear on your lifestyle and financial blueprints. Don't feel like you need to consume everything. Use the information you need for the blocker you're working on, then go do something with it.

That's all you need.
Don't make this more difficult than it is. Understand the concept. Build your blueprint. Identify your blockers. Use tactical information you need to start removing them. Execute, iterate, reevaluate, keep going.
The framework gives you something practical to work with, but remember what you're really doing underneath it. You're giving direction to your conscious mind, activating the subconscious patterns and routines that move you through life, and creating enough clarity and space to hear the instinctive, superconscious part of you that often knows where to go before you consciously understand why.
Podcast 91 - Blueprints for 2025: A Try Life On Community Call has lots of success stories as told by people just like you. The basic roadmap is enough. You don't need coaching, but if you want dedicated help, reach out.
Start with your life, figure out what you want, determine what's standing between you and it and begin there.
That's Trying Life On.
Good luck!
